Critical Coffee Break: generic binarism and gender theories
Our Occidental culture seems to have it very clear that there are only two possible right human genders, but if we look into other cultures it is easy to find out how third, fourth and even a fifth gender are recognised, without forgeting about those who also take the „non-gender“ gender into account. What was it then that made our accepted spectrum so small? What does it mean for a person who does not identifies themself with these generic cathegories? What kind of confrontations do these people have to face from the institutions and society in their daily lives? How are the gender theories dealing with issue?

General info about the Critical Coffee Break
Are you always missing certain topics in lectures – or especially a critical perspective? The Critical Coffee Break offers time for new impulses and discussions in a relaxed atmosphere. Together, we want to create a space for unpopular thoughts and approaches, critical exchange and steps towards a socioecological transformation.
The aim is, that a different person prepares a short keynote/video/mini lecture/other format (max. 15 Min.) for each session, followed by a collective discussion around the presented topic. You can talk about personal experiences, alternative political theories or whatever comes to your mind.
If feeling appealed, send us a message (changebox[at]yooweedoo.org) with your topic or simply come and join us on Wednesdays from 4 -5 pm. Let us unleash our most critical, creative and claiming selves.
Inspire and get inspired.
